The Lazy Marketers Way Of Getting Etsy Sales
Dec 20, 2022Today we're talking about the lazy marketers way of getting Etsy sales. Calling yourself a lazy marketer is not a bad thing.
Lazy marketers are one of the best marketers out there because they're always looking for a better way to do things. This is what this post is all about; how to market efficiently so that you're not wasting time and burning out doing things that are not going to grow your business.
I'm definitely a lazy marketer. I want the most direct route to do something. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, I just want to get results as quickly as I can.
1. Create quarterly or yearly growth plans for your business and stick to them!
I know this sounds very corporate, but the reason why we feel stressed is because we're using our energy and our time to figure out this marketing stuff on the fly. What tends to happen is that we say 'I need to post something on social media today', or 'I have a big promotion coming up, what shall I do?', and your marketing does become a bit of an after thought, especially for us creatives.
All we want to do is create things, and we put the vast majority of our energy and creativeness into that and marketing is a bit of an after thought. Therefore, be kind to yourself and create quarterly or yearly growth plans and stick to them.
Think about Steve Jobs who only ever wore jeans and a black top every single day, because he wanted to be lazy. He wanted to find the best and quickest way to get dressed in the morning and make his way to work, and that was simplifying what he wore.
I do the same, I rotate the same 5 or 6 dresses but I do that because getting dressed in a morning used to stress me out. I'm lazy, I want the quickest, most direct way. Why not take that advice for your marketing? Create a plan and then you've taken 50% of that stress out of it straight away.
I have a video on my YouTube channel explaining how to create a yearly marketing plan and in that video, I'm talking about how to market on social media if you hate social media. Watch it HERE
2. Create templates
Whenever you have the same process happening in your business over and over again, how can you create a template or a standard operating procedure (instructions) to make it easier for yourself?
Is there a way to write down the steps you're taking and streamline it and make it as efficient as you can? Because when we're thinking too much about these processes in our business, it is taking our energy. It's the same for our marketing. How can you streamline the process? Literally write down the process of you finding an Instagram post or doing a Reel or story, and try to streamline that.
Could you create Canva templates for your stories? Could you create Canva templates for your Reels? Could you find a video editor to cut your long form content (YouTube videos) down and make them into Reels, so that you're not wasting your time?
I can't not mention the best marketing tool of all which is my social media power pack 'A years worth of social media'. β¨β¨A YEAR's worth of social media content... DONE!β¨β¨

3. Find time sucks when it comes to your marketing
Every single time you do marketing there are time sucks. How can you find those time suck and eradicate them? A great tool that one of my team uses is called 'News Feed Eradicator' and that is something I have implemented in my business too. It's a Google Chrome plug in and it gets rid of your news feed, so that whenever you go onto Facebook, you're not being distracted and getting sucked in to reading all of the posts from your family and friends instead.
This also works for your business as a whole too, because there are going to be time sucks in your daily working life. Audit your business and go through and see when your time sucks are. Time your day/ tasks and see when you're getting distracted or wasting time.
I did this for 2 weeks and I kept a time log. You would not believe the amount of wasted time that I was doing. I was the worst person for saying 'I'm too busy, I can't possibly do XYZ', and then I did this time log and found out that I'm a liar because I had all this time, but I was wasting it on other things. Find those time sucks, see if you can delegate them, automate them, or eradicate them. Don't allow your time to be wasted in your business
4. Find your one
I love this rule because I am a big fan of keeping business simple. There are 100 ways to get to Rome and if your Rome is making 6 figures, or a thousand pounds a month from your Etsy shop, there are many, many ways to get to that one goal. But I am a fan of having the quickest, easiest and most direct to get to Rome, and that is where the rule of one comes into play.
So what's the one way you want to market your shop? What's the one social media profile that you want to use? What's your one target audience? What's your one niche? Tell me what those one things are. When I started to implement the rule of one in my business, this was when things really started to flow because when you focus on one thing, you have permission to be fabulously lazy and that is not a bad thing.
